Born 1968 in Jasin, Malacca, Dr Wee has been a leader in the Malaysian political landscape since the mid-1990s and has served as Minister in the Prime Minister's Department since June 2014 spearheading policies on SME development, micro-credit programmes and development of Chinese New Villages. He formerly held the portfolio of Deputy Education Minister from 2008 to 2013. 

Dr Wee, 46, was most recently elected the Deputy President of the Malaysian Chinese Association in 2013. He graduated in civil engineering and later earned a doctorate in transportation planning from Malaysia Technology University. A former national MCA Youth chairman, he has been the Member of Parliament for the Ayer Hitam constituency for three consecutive terms since 2004. In the MCA, Dr Wee also chairs the National Education Consultative Committee and serves as Sabah state liaison chief for MCA. He was formerly the chairman for the Johor and Negeri Sembilan states.

Dr Wee's passion for education development is further reflected by his affiliation with Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tunku Abdul Rahman University College, whom he advises as council member. He is also council member to the Malaysian Qualification Agency.

He is an active member on several professional engineers' organisation including the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (MIEM) and Road Engineering Association of Asia & Australasia (REAAA).

Dr Wee, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, has also been appointed Deputy Education Minister civil engineer by training has been a prominent leader in Malaysia's political landscape for over a decade.
